Ireland: Ireland’s population is religious, but it’s leaders have legalized gay marriage

The Republic of Ireland, known to be predominately Roman Catholic, took to the polls on Friday, which led to the legalization of gay marriage. This makes Ireland the first country to mark their ballots in the affirmative on the issue by popular vote.

The constitution of the country will be modified to fit the change of policy for gay couples due to the 1,201,607 favorable votes verses the 734,300 votes of opposition—a calculated 61 percent of the voter population that helped to pass the addition. ∞∞∞∞∞ SEE MORE ∞∞∞∞∞
