Israel: Heat Wave in Israel Sets Records for August

The new heat wave that rolled in on Sunday brought some record August temperatures according to the Meteorological Service. The monitoring station in Afula reached 41.5 degrees C, topping its previous record of 40.8 degrees, while in Ein Hahoresh the temperature reached a record 37.6 degrees.

The hottest region of the country was the Jordan Valley and the Arava, where temperatures reached 43 to 46 degrees. The highest temperature measured on Sunday was 46.4 in the Jordan Valley community of Gilgal, though that was lower than the 49.3 measured during the heat wave earlier this month.

Temperatures reached 36-37 degrees in the mountain regions and 35-37 along the coast, where the relative humidity was 60 percent to 70 percent. Slightly inland the temperatures reached 31 degrees but the humidity was 80 percent.
