Manila: Ten have been confirmed dead, including two miners, in northern Luzon and eight others in southern Philippines, as Typhoon Soudelor, locally called Hanna, hovered over the Pacific Ocean and rushed towards the northeastern sea, dumping rain that resulted in floods and landslides across the country, senior officials said.

Two miners, Jonas Isang, 24, and Eddie Latigo, 50, were confirmed dead. They were trapped when the ceiling of a mining pit collapsed in Itogon Baguio on Thursday. At the time, Typhoon Soudelor was seen 300 kilometres off Itbayat, Batanes, packing 165km/h winds near the centre and gustiness of up to 200km/h, the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Saturday. ∞∞∞∞∞ SEE MORE ∞∞∞∞∞
